In 2013, Angelina wrote a op-ed column for the New York Times, where she revealed she had undergone a preventative double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

She chose to have the surgery after finding out she had the BRCA1 gene.

That specific gene, as well as BRCA2, both greatly increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

The humanitarian said her doctor had told her while she was in the midst of editing By The Sea that her blood levels were suspicious and said it could be cancer.

Angelina recalled how she felt after: ‘Ten minutes later, the room’s spinning, and you just think, How . . . ?’

Taking out her ovaries meant she went into menopause.

Her mother Marcheline died in 2007 after an eight year battle with ovarian cancer; she was 56.

But the mother-of-six also shared some health news: she had Bell’s Palsy.

‘I can’t tell if it’s menopause or if it’s just been the year I’ve had. Sometimes women in families put themselves last until it manifests itself in their own health,’ the siren began.

‘I actually feel like more of a woman because I’m being smart about my choices, and I’m putting my family first, and I’m in charge of my life and my health.

‘I think that’s what makes a woman complete.’

Hypertension is a condition in which the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high.

The Girl, Interrupted actress added she is taking a break from films for a while.

‘I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house. That’s my passion. At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, Did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day?’
