“The King of the Ring,” Gunther, took advantage of Finn Bálor’s betrayal of Damian Priest to become the new World Heavyweight Champion at WWE SummerSlam 2024.
Damian Priest showed up at WWE SummerSlam 2024 to put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against “The King of the Ring”, Gunther .
The Austrian contender put on a memorable performance last May that allowed him to win the King Of The Ring 2024 tournament after defeating Randy Orton in Saudi Arabia. Once “The Champion” managed to overcome several high-stakes tests in the following months, the rivalry between the two superstars became quite personal on the road to Cleveland.
Damian Priest vs Gunther
Gunther tries to charge his opponent as soon as the bell rings, but Damian Priest stops him short with a Forearm. The Austrian tries to regain ground, but is sent out of the ring after receiving a Flatliner. Priest pursues his opponent, but this costs him being sent into the post and then into the apron of the ring. Gunther breaks the referee’s count and waits for Damian to return to the ring. Priest responds with a couple of blows on the challenger, but is unable to complete the next move and receives a Chop followed by a Dragon Suplex; the count is one.
The actions go to the top of the corner… Gunther is dangerously on top, taking the champion’s blows. Priest climbs to try to take down his rival, but Gunther reacts by hurting his rival’s left arm; even so, Damian ends up knocking down the challenger with a “Hurracarrana” and then attacks with a “Falcon Arrow”; he counts to two. Priest connects a kick to Gunther’s chest, and this opens the door for a strong exchange of blows. Because of this, Gunther’s chest shows a wound from which vital fluid emanates. It is being a battle without quarter at WWE SummerSlam 2024 .
Damian Priest misses his next attack and Gunther punishes him with a «Drop Kick» followed by a «Powerbomb» ; the count stays at two. Both take a while to get back to their feet. New exchange of blows once they do… «Spinning Kick» by Priest on Gunther followed by a «South of Heaven»; the count stays at two. Gunther keeps control over Priest attacking with an «Exploder Suplex» followed by two «Clotheslines», but it is not enough to win. Both are exhausted, starring in a clash of giants. Priest can barely stay on his knees and still asks his rival to keep attacking.
Finn Bálor appears to cheer his partner on at a crucial moment, as “The Champion” is down on the canvas. Gunther lifts Priest only to send him back to the canvas with a “Chop.” Bálor harangues Priest to react, but the challenger is not here to show mercy. The Austrian gets into Finn and beats him up even though he is not being a factor in the fight. This angers Damian Priest, who gets to his feet to take down Gunther with a pair of powerful “Clotheslines.” Damian Priest “Razor’s Edge” on Gunther followed by a “South of Heaven”! Gunther rolls near the ropes to make the count… BUT FINN BÁLOR PLACES GUNTHER’S BOOT ON THE BOTTOM ROPE AND THE THREE COUNT DOES NOT COME!
Damian Priest realizes what’s happening when he sees the replay on the stadium screen. Finn Bálor turns around with a malevolent look; Damian tries to confront Finn, but Gunther stops him to catch him with a “Sleeper”. Priest stays alive and manages to roll so that his rival releases the hold. Damian is distracted again because he tries to attack Finn Bálor , which Gunther takes advantage of to attack him with a “Powerbomb” and thus, finally, sends him to sleep with a “Sleeper” on the ground. GUNTHER IS THE NEW WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!!
