Ryan Garcia announces new job after being banned from boxing

Ryan Garcia has announced that he is now the head trainer of his brother, Sean Garcia.

Sean lost for the first time in his professional boxing career (7-1-1) on Saturday night against Amado Vargas during the Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal undercard in Anaheim, California.

Vargas – the son of two-time super-welterweight world champion Fernando Vargas – dropped Sean in the fourth round with a picture-perfect right uppercut and then pilled on the pressure.

Sean showed a lot of heart in fighting back but was overwhelmed by Vargas’ output and stopped in the sixth round up against the ropes.

‘King Ry’ walked his brother out for the fight but wasn’t in his corner when the opening bell rang.

He insists that won’t be the case if Vargas grants his younger brother a rematch.

“Sean may have taken an L but here’s the great news about that, I wasn’t in his corner,” said Garcia in a video uploaded to social media.

“The Vargas brothers, they are 1-0 on us but it’s okay.

“We’re going to call for the rematch and I’m the head trainer. Amado, what’s good?”

Garcia is currently serving a one-year ban from boxing after testing positive for banned PED Ostarine in three separate drugs tests taken around his last outing against Devin Haney on April 20.

He was initially declared the victor via unanimous decision but the result has since been made a no-contest on both men’s records.

Garcia will be suspended until April 2025 by the New York State Athletic Commission and must provide a clean urine test before having his licence re-issued.

The disgraced boxer was also recently expelled by the WBC for his racist and Islamophobic comments on social media.

Garcia repeatedly used racial slurs against Black people and Muslims during a live stream on X, formerly Twitter, last week.

The 25-year-old insisted he was ‘trolling’ and issued an apology on social media, which has since been deleted.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman released a statement on X confirming that the major sanctioning body would no longer allow him to compete under their auspices for the foreseeable future.

“Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organisation,” he posted.

“We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan’s well-being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse.”

His family have also condemned his disparaging views while his father Henry has urged Garcia to seek therapy for his drinking.
