Season 4 of The Boys is finally here, and a Hughie and Butcher sequence from the first few episodes is a wonderful throwback to season 1. In the fourth season of the Amazon series, The Boys, the group’s namesake, are having a difficult time as they all deal with personal issues and past traumas. As The Boys season 4 gets underway, not much fantastic teamwork is occurring, which is making it increasingly challenging for MM to completely assume his role as the group’s new leader.

Of course, The Boys team isn’t always the best at teamwork, even during the earlier seasons, and one moment from the premiere is a subtle reminder of that. Butcher and Hughie’s relationship is complicated in The Boys, and it’s hard to tell when they’re loyal friends and when they’re at odds with one another. One scene from The Boys season 4’s opening episodes sees Butcher putting Hughie in harm’s way in a manner that’s reminiscent of season 1.
