Jennifer Lawrence just attended the Oscars and made a feminist fashion statement

Jennifer Lawrence gave new meaning to the phrase “golden girl” on tonight’s Oscars red carpet. The Red Sparrow star turned heads in a glittering Dior column from the house’s recent Pre-Fall collection.

Keenly, it resembled chainmail, underscoring the power of a woman’s strength on Hollywood’s biggest night-and by choosing a dress designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, one of the few female creative heads of a major fashion house, Lawrence’s statement rang twice as loud.

The message felt perfect for Lawrence, who has been fabulously outspoken about the importance of equal pay for women in the workplace, and is even said to be developing a series with Catt Sadler, inspired by #MeToo, the Time’s Up movement, and gender wage gap conversations in Hollywood. As for the dress, the heavy metals conjured the image of a woman going into battle.

It felt like a marked departure for Lawrence, who in past years has gravitated toward neo-bridal Dior couture and scarlet Calvin Klein gowns, to name but a few. The molded bustier neckline balanced out the whisper-thin straps, while the asymmetric waistline created an easy silhouette.

Lawrence left off jewels altogether, save for a single diamond pavé bracelet that provided the ideal hint of sparkle with every flick of the wrist. All that glitters is gold, including Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars tonight. The former Best Actress winner—and tonight’s reported presenter for the Best Actress category (Lawrence will be filling in for Casey Affleck, who withdrew from being a presenter in January)-arrived at the ceremony in the most stunning of Dior dresses. Curls and metallic eye makeup completed the look.
