Scarlett Johansson Reflects on Disney Legal Battle and Cannes Film.

In a candid interview, acclaimed actress Scarlett Johansson opened up about the personal and professional challenges she faced during her high-profile legal battle with Disney over the release of the Marvel film Black Widow.

Johansson, who portrayed the iconic superhero for nearly a decade, sued Disney for breach of contract after the studio opted for a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release, which she argued undermined the film’s box office potential and her compensation. The dispute was eventually settled out of court, but the ordeal took an emotional toll on the actress.

“It was a very difficult time, both personally and professionally,” Johansson reflected. “I had to advocate for myself and my contract in a way I had never done before. But in the end, I’m proud that I stood up for what was right.”

The experience, Johansson said, made her appreciate the “liberating” creative freedom she found in working with director Wes Anderson on his latest Cannes Film Festival entry.

“Wes’ process is so unique and collaborative,” she explained. “It was a welcome change of pace after the rigidity of the Marvel machine. I felt reinvigorated as an artist.”

Looking ahead, Johansson expressed excitement for her future projects, both in front of and behind the camera. “This industry is constantly evolving, and I’m excited to be a part of that change – on my own terms.”
