An early venture capitalist is giving nonprofits a $26 million San Francisco mansion.

The founder of one of the first venture capital businesses in the area offered his San Francisco residence for $26 million last week.

Property records show that George Sarlo, 86, co-founder of Walden Capital Management, which began investing in technology start-ups in 1974, paid $2.2 million in 1993 for the 1920s house. The Sarlo Family Foundation will fund grants using the proceeds of the sale, according to Sotheby’s International Realty, who is promoting the property.

The Sarlo Family Foundation was formally founded in 2011 to carry on Sarlo’s charitable endeavors. Its primary focus is on programs that improve the health of young people in the Bay Area.

“My involvement with the foundation has provided meaning and comfort in my life, an opportunity to see my values in action and a chance to blend my life experiences and aspirations to benefit others,” Sarlo said in a statement.

Nestled on the Pacific Ocean’s edge in the posh Sea Cliff area, this 7,890-square-foot mansion floods the interior with unique, expansive views of the water that stretch from Lands End to the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey resides in Sea Cliff, a center of affluence for the IT industry.

As to the listing by Tania Toubba and Debi DiCello of Sotheby’s International Realty – San Francisco Brokerage, the three-story house is decorated with arched entrances, vaulted ceilings, and ornamental accents that mix elements of the Mediterranean and Spanish Revival styles.

Four complete bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, and four bedrooms are present. The office, which features a wet bar, a balcony, and views of the ocean, leads to the main suite.

The lower level has two bedrooms and a kitchenette; it might be used as guest accommodations. On that floor, there’s also a media room and a two-car garage.

According to Sotheby’s, upgrades over the years have included adding two Tesla Powerwalls and redesigning the kitchen, which features an island, marble countertops, and high-end appliances.

Outside, off the main level, there’s a Mediterranean-style courtyard with a spa facing south, and on the north side of the home, there’s a deck overlooking the water.
