A Buyer is Found for the Quirky Upstate New York Castle by Derek Jeter

After six years on the market and more than $8 million in reductions, retired baseball great Derek Jeter has finally found a buyer for his lakeside mansion in New York.

In the village of Greenwood Lake, New York, and less than 50 miles from Manhattan, Tiedemann Castle has been advertised for $14.75 million by the former New York Yankee, but it has been on and off the market since mid-2018. To no effect, he even put it up for auction in 2022.

Earlier this month, though, the unique property reappeared on the market with a newly slimmed down $6.3 million sticker price, and as of Thursday, was pending sale.

A final sale price and any information on the buyer won’t be available until the deal closes.

According to records with PropertyShark reveal, Jeter, who spent his whole two-decade career playing for the Yankees, was connected to a limited liability corporation that bought the property in numerous portions in the early 2000s. The amount that he paid is unknown.

According to the ad with Diane Mitchell of Wright Bros. Real Estate, the “magical property” has been “lovingly restored beyond its original grandeur.” Regarding the deal, she declined to comment.

The almost 9,000-square-foot medieval-looking main home comes complete with an imposing tower and battlements, multiple kitchens, a sunroom, an office, a game room, a formal dining room, an office and a family room with a bar.

And “extensive lake views await you from most of the rooms as well as from both turrets and the rooftop,” the listing said.

Outside of the main house, the 4-acre property boasts a guest house, a pool house, a pool, a private lagoon, a boat house and a boat dock. There’s also a stone waterfall and a replica of the Statue of Liberty.

A representative for Jeter, 49, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
