Chaka Khan’s former California home sold for $6.35 million.

The “Queen of Funk,” Chaka Khan, was the owner of a gated Spanish-style mansion that went up for $6.35 million on Friday, according to listing agent Stephen Udoff of the Coldwell Banker Realty office in Malibu.

The house is noteworthy, though, for reasons that go far beyond its previous occupant. It has many original elements, indoors and out, including a petting zoo.

Built in 1947 and surrounded by lush greenery, the five-bedroom main house is laden with rustic charm, and boasts tile floors, exposed brick and stone, beamed ceilings, wood-paneled walls and mountain views from every significant room, according to the listing.

There’s a living room with a circular seating area and a fire pit, a chef’s kitchen with a pizza oven and barbecue grill, a breakfast area, a formal dining area, a library and a study.

The large primary suite is fitted with a natural rock fireplace, a private natural spa, a walk-in closet and an exercise room, all with views of the surrounding nature through a wall of windows.

Elsewhere on the 5.5-acre property is a poolside cantina, complete with a bar, tables and space for games, and a horse corral with box stalls and enclosures for chickens and peacocks

In addition to the petting zoo, there is a lake full of koi fish, a greenhouse, fruit trees in full bloom, a small vineyard, a natural waterfall that empties into another pond full of koi fish, and a large habitat for tortoises that includes a tunnel for nighttime exploration.

The house was purchased from Khan in 1984 by the seller, who was not available for comment, according to a brokerage agent.
