They’re keeping the whole world guessing as to the identity of ‘Becky with the good hair.’
But rather than referring to a single woman who had an affair with her husband Jay Z, an insider is claiming that the character in Beyoncé‘s Lemonade track Sorry refers to a number of women he cheated with.
‘I don’t think Beyoncé is calling out one girl. It is many girls. The rumors have been around for years,’ a source told PageSix.com.
Mystery: Beyonce’s ‘Becky with the good hair’ could be a reference to ‘the many women’ Jay Z cheated on her with and not refer to one specific individual, a source told PageSix.com
Rocky? An insider claims the rapper and music mogul was unfaithful during the early years of his marriage to the pop superstar. They wed in 2008 and this image from their wedding was seen in the music video on HBO
In the early years of their marriage, it’s alleged that the rapper and music mogul had a number of liaisons out of wedlock, but that things changed once Jay Z and Beyonce welcomed their daughter Blue Ivy in 2012.
The gossip site’s source said: ‘Beyoncé had the baby and was like, ‘What am I doing? This is what my dad did to my mom.’ She really looked at herself.’
‘Jay is now a great husband, and this is in the past. They went through a rocky patch but things are good again. The video is about finally coming to terms with her strength and their love.’
New beginning: The birth of their daughter Blue Ivy in 2012 changed the dynamic of their marriage, it’s claimed
Stronger: Lemonade is Beyonce’s ode to empowered black womanhood
After the video for Sorry aired on HBO as part of the debut of her new album Lemonade this past weekend, it was suggested that ‘Becky with the good hair’ referred to fashion designer Rachel Roy.
Beyoncé fans deduced that ‘Becky’ was Roy when she posted an picture to Instagram just hours after the album’s release.
She wrote: ‘Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. Live in the light #nodramaqueens.’
But in a statement to People on Tuesday, Roy says that her comments were misinterpreted.
‘There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors,’ the 42-year-old said.
Keeping a low profile: Rita Ora was pictured arriving in Vancouver, Canada, on Tuesday evening – just hours after publicly denying her part in the ‘Becky’ furore
Low-key: The singer, 25, shunned her usual loud ensembles in favour of something more casual as she attempted to blend in with the crowd in the midst of the Beyonce and Jay-Z drama
Is she Becky? Fashion designer Rachel Roy was initially thought by Queen Bey’s fans to be ‘Becky’ after posting on Instagram ‘Good hair don’t care.’ She’s pictured at a Hollywood premiere on April 4
Hiding: On Tuesday, Roy, 42, tried hard to go incognito in a hoodie pulled up over a baseball cap that shaded her face as she stepped out in LA
The fashion designer dressed down in ripped denims and an olive jacket and attempted to cover her face as she left a residence carrying a large holdall
On Tuesday, Roy was seen out in LA but clearly anxious about being recognized.
She wore a hoodie pulled up over a baseball cap and tried to shield her face with her hand as she left a house carrying a black holdall.
Musician Rita Ora, 25, has also shot down claims that she is the subject of the cheating allegations, tweeting Tuesday that she had ‘nothing but the utmost respect’ for Beyonce.
It’s not me either: Rita Ora, 25, has also been suggested as the woman behind ‘Becky,’ something she also denied on Tuesday. She’s pictured with Jay Z in January 2014
Meanwhile, ‘another source close to the situation’ says that whole Becky set up is simply a marketing ploy by the superstar couple.
‘Lemonade is a movie crafted to drive sales. Jay and Beyoncé are entertainers at the top of their game. Do you think Jay would release her album on [his own] Tidal if it really was all about him? He is 100 percent behind this,’ the source told PageSix.
Beyonce is set to perform in Miami on Wednesday night as part of her Formation World Tour.
