Dana White believes Conor McGregor is finally now in a position to enter talks over his UFC comeback.

McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg in a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in 2021, and has vented his frustrations that he has yet to seal an official date.

The Irishman announced earlier this week that his return is now set in stone, and will take place in June against Michael Chandler, who he locked horns with in the latest series of The Ultimate Fighter.

It has been a superstar lifestyle for McGregor who has this week launched in his new role in Hollywood film Road House, and White has revealed this contributed significantly to the delay.

He said on the Pound4Pound Show: “There is now lack of communication not at all. Conor has obligations right now to promote this movie.

“He has been going all around the world to promote this movie, it is what it is. He committed to this movie, he can’t do both [make a UFC comeback].

“This thing launches soon, but once this is finished he can get back in the gym and get into full training.”

White once again questioned McGregor’s desire to fight, pointing out the vast wealth he has generated from his career already.

“Tell me if I’m f***ing wrong, once you start making a lot of money you aren’t as hungry as you were before and it does suck to grind as hard as you used to grind.

“You think about the money Conor has made. This dude is living on yachts, McGregor for a guy who was once on the dole is a pretty good businessman, and a great partner to us.

“Conor needed this time to take off, handle his obligations and he can get back now once this is over. This week we can start talking about fights for Conor.”

From White’s suggestions, it appears that a fight announcement from McGregor was a tad premature as we wait to hear official confirmation from the UFC.

The 34-year-old drew up a three-fight plan featuring Chandler, Nate Diaz and a potential boxing fight with Manny Pacquiao.

He has also suggested he would be open to a blockbuster fourth contest with Dustin Poirier, but has just two fights remaining on his current deal.

The former two-weight champion will no doubt be rusty, when he returned and is also debating whether to fight Chandler over three rounds in an unprecedented alteration.

All that can be said is that fans are eagerly awaiting his return as one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in the promotion’s history.
