Kylian Mbappe to retain 90% of image rights in his Real Madrid contract

Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid are currently trying to finalise a contract, as the player gears up to sign for Los Blancos on a free transfer.

PSG coach Luis Enrique has already hinted that Mbappe will leave the club at the end of the season, with Real Madrid prepared to snap him up.

It is, in fact, only a matter of time before Real Madrid finalise a contract with Mbappe, who will undoubtedly become the highest earner at Santiago Bernabeu.

Kylian Mbappe to retain 90% of image rights

Journalist Ramon Alvarez has offered a fresh update on Mbappe’s contract with Real Madrid, suggesting that the Frenchman could retain 90% of his image rights in his new contract.

The image rights issue has always been a hot topic in contracts signed by Mbappe in recent years. He was notably involved in a controversy with the French Football Federation in 2022 when he refused to take part in a photoshoot over an image rights dispute.

Even in his PSG contract, Mbappe enjoys a significant chunk of image rights. The Frenchman had initially demanded 100% of image rights, but as compensation, he became the highest-paid player at Parc des Princes.

The same image rights issue will continue to dominate the discussions as Real Madrid look to sign personal terms with the former AS Monaco starlet.

Not a new theme for Real Madrid

This is not the first time Real Madrid are grappling with an image rights issue in player contracts.

In fact, several players in the current team hold more than 50% of image rights, so it is not a novelty act for Real Madrid.

What will be interesting, however, is whether or not Real Madrid can trim down Mbappe’s whopping 90% share of image rights and bring it down to a more standard equation.
