Chelsea join Real Madrid in race for €25 million-rated teenage defender

As has been well-established by now, Real Madrid are intent on signing Lille OSC teenage defender Leny Yoro in the summer transfer window.

Yoro, 18, has established himself as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe and has been on Real Madrid’s radars for months now.

The Merengues are eager to bolster their defensive ranks in the summer and see him as a key target for the upcoming transfer window, along with Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies.

However, competition for Yoro’s services seems to be growing rapidly. PSG have held an interest in the teenager for a while now and will pursue him in the summer.

More recently, we reported how Manchester United had also sent scouts to monitor the 18-year-old. Now, another Premier League club has seemingly entered the race.

Chelsea interested in Leny Yoro

Indeed, as per Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Chelsea have identified Leny Yoro as a target for the summer transfer window.

With Thiago Silva in the final phase of his career, the Blues are on the lookout for a replacement and have narrowed in on the Real Madrid and PSG target as an option.

Chelsea have been spending freely in the market under their new owners, although things will be a little difficult next summer, unless they make some important sales to balance the books.

Despite being 18 years old, Yoro already has close to 50 senior appearances for Lille, and the Chelsea owners see him as an ideal fit for their project, as they plan to sign two or three of the world’s best players under 23 for every position.

Lille demand outrageous amounts

Yoro has just a year left on his contract with Lille but reports suggest that despite that the Ligue 1 club have set a mammoth €100 million price tag on their asset.

However, it is unlikely that any club would be willing to meet that valuation considering that his current market value stands at €25 million and he has just a year left on his contract.

With Chelsea now joining PSG and Real Madrid in the race, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
