Christian Horner has been in surprising talks with Ferrari as he continues to seek a return to Formula 1. The former Red Bull team principal left his role back in July, and discussions with their rivals have reportedly been going on behind the scenes of late.
The 51-year-old formally departed his role just a few weeks ago with an £80million severance package after being accused of ‘coercive behaviour’ towards a female staff member. She has also departed Red Bull, but joined a new team in the sport.
Horner denied those accusations and was cleared of any wrongdoing in internal hearings overseen by two KCs. He has not been at a race since the British Grand Prix back in July, but that could soon change.
The Daily Mail have stated that he is being wooed by Ferrari, while talks with other teams have also taken place. It is also being noted that team president John Elkann does not have faith in Fred Vasseur, who is the man currently in charge.
Ferrari have thus far endured a very mixed season with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton fifth and sixth in the standings, respectively, so change could be in the offing.
Horner spent a sensational two decades at Red Bull which resulted in him overseeing a total of 14 world titles. He also won six constructors’ championships during his 20-year tenure.
Horner had remained silent over the last few months but confirmed a public appearance for January 2026 earlier this month. He is due to be a headline speaker at the European Motor Show.
“Ireland has a rich motorsport heritage and I am honoured to join the inaugural European Motor Show,” he said. “I look forward to engaging discussions on the future of performance, innovation and the people driving change in our sport.”
In terms of roles back in Formula 1, alongside speaking to Ferrari, it has been revealed that he has been in touch with both Aston Martin and Haas. Exploratory talks with the latter were revealed by Ayao Komatsu at the Singapore Grand Prix.
