Conor McGregor responds to UFC comeback delay by posting sparring footage from his backyard Octagon

Conor McGregor continues to press ahead with comeback training.

‘Notorious’ has been sidelined since breaking his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 – but he’s now fully fit and desperate to return.

McGregor has been booked to face lightweight contender Michael Chandler since last February, however, UFC CEO Dana White is yet to confirm a date for their clash.

The former dual-weight champion recently claimed he will be fighting Chander at UFC 302 on June 29 and shocked the world by revealing their matchup will take place at middleweight.

White continues to play coy when it comes to McGregor’s comeback date, but he did recently suggest the Irishman won’t be returning to the cage this summer.

“Eventually,” White told The Pat McAfee Show when asked about McGregor vs. Chandler.

“Hopefully this year. There is no date. I’m hoping for the fall.

“[Hopefully] we get it done in the fall.”

McGregor is known for going on fiery ‘tweet and delete’ sprees when someone irks him, but he is yet to react to White pushing his fight back.

Instead, he shared new sparring footage to Instagram on Monday.

In order to be ready when he finally gets a fight date, McGregor, like Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg, has set up a full-size Octagon in his back garden.

The new training clip shows him landing his signature left hand and throwing his ‘titanium shin bone’ at an unknown sparring partner, who is wearing a Liverpool shirt.

The 35-year-old ends the sparring session on top of his opponent who is covering up on the floor and trying to avoid the ground strikes coming his way.

Pictures from his backyard gym show McGregor sparred someone else too.

McGregor captioned the post: “The double GOAT, I have the full scale octagon in my garden with the canvas covered in billion dollar businesses. IRELAND BABY!!”

‘Mystic Mac’ previously told talkSPORT his patience with the UFC is wearing thin, but he seems to be taking this latest setback in stride.

Although it seems unlikely he will sit on the sidelines in silence for long.
