Conor McGregor claims he has nabbed acting role as hit RTE Show set for shock return

McGregor took to social media as news leaked of the show’s surprise return.

Conor McGregor claimed he had secured a role after it was announced that Love/Hate would return to screens in 2026.

The hit RTE show came to an end in 2014 and during its five season run received critical acclaim and was a launch pad for actors such as Barry Keoghan, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Ruth Negga, and Robert Sheehan.

John Connors, who also starred in the show, broke the news of the show’s surprise return. Appearing on the Six O’Clock Show, he said: “It is coming back. It’s going into production later this year. It will be out next year. It’s an exclusive, but I wasn’t meant to say it till tomorrow.

“I’m being serious, hand on my heart.”

McGregor claimed he would act in the show, saying, “Ireland, I am very happy and excited to announce that I have now accepted a role in the returning “Love/Hate” series. Ireland, USA, The World, you’re gonna love this character let me tell ye.”

McGregor has since deleted the tweet saying this.

The UFC star is close pals with John Connors, previously hosting a movie night for Connors’ The Black Guelph at his Dublin pub the Black Forge Inn. His links with Connors suggest there could be legitimacy in his claims about securing a role in the series.

McGregor made his acting debut last year in Doug Liman’s Road House, where he starred alongside Hollywood A-lister Jake Gyllenhaal.

An RTÉ spokesperson said: “There are no plans for a new series of Love/Hate. Fans can watch all five series on RTÉ Player.” However, an announcement will be made tomorrow if Connors is to be believed.
