The Prince of Wales, at 43, celebrated the second anniversary of his groundbreaking initiative, Homewards, in Sheffield, a city deeply connected to his mother’s charitable endeavors.
On July 1st, William engaged with key players from six pilot regions—Sheffield, Newport, Aberdeen, Northern Ireland, Bournemouth, and Lambeth—at the Homewards Delivering Change Together event. This gathering was a vibrant hub of workshops, expert panels, and collaborative discussions aimed at tackling homelessness with innovative, locally-driven strategies.
In a compelling panel discussion alongside Homewards supporter Steven Bartlett and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who highlighted the initiative’s partnerships with businesses to provide essential supplies to low-income families, William emphasized the urgency of the cause. “The goal of Homewards is to make homelessness rare, brief, and unrepeated,” he stated, reflecting a deeply personal commitment rooted in his childhood experiences with Diana.

He famously spent a night on the streets of London in 2009 to understand homelessness firsthand and has been a patron of Centrepoint, a charity championed by Diana, since 2005. As he conveyed in an open letter ahead of his visit, the initiative is now in full swing, with a focus on collaboration and empathy. “We are seeing really concrete outcomes,” Lydia Stasen, a member of the Homewards National Expert Panel, remarked, highlighting the initiative’s timely arrival amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic.
