Mike Tyson backed to score history-making KO over Jake Paul despite fight being branded a ‘mockery’

Mike Tyson has been backed to KO Jake Paul, in a fight which will make heavyweight history.

The heavyweight legend will return at the age of 58, to take on 26-year-old YouTube boxer Jake Paul on November 15, in an astonishingly sanctioned bout.

Providing the fight takes place as planned, Tyson will break former rival Roy Jones Jr’s record for having the longest-spanning heavyweight career from 1985 to 2024.

And boxing star Willy Hutchinson, who fights Joshua Buatsi on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois, believes he can win given Paul’s ‘limited’ skills.

“Wow that is still happening? It’s terrible isn’t it? The man is 60-years-old,” Hutchinson told talkSPORT.com.

“I still think he can beat and knock out Jake Paul even at the age of 60, he isn’t worth anything.

“I think it’s a shame though really, it is letting boxing down and it is making it a bit of a mockery.

“I mean what good is that doing or gaining for boxing? But everyone will buy in and watch it.

“It’s Mike Tyson fighting Jake Paul, they are big names. It’s a shame, I don’t care how much money you are getting.

“I wouldn’t jeopardise what I’ve done if I was Mike Tyson, just to say I am fighting Jake Paul.”

Tyson’s last competitive bout was in 2005, when he was retired by Kevin McBride after a tragic result in his final bout.

His physical condition had worsened then, and 19 years later, he is still fighting medical ailments to make a full comeback.

In a bid to prove his fitness, Tyson has been posting training footage for the first time since his return, after being forced to reschedule the bout.

He still carries his ferocious power in bursts, but it will be a challenge against Paul who is in his physical prime.

And the former undisputed champion’s ex-coach Teddy Atlas believes that this could well be enough to get the job done despite his age and declined skills.

He said: “You better be aware, knowing Tyson the way I do, power doesn’t disappear when you’re old.

“He’s still got speed, combinations. He’s still got that style that he was taught to make you miss and create openings for that power.

” He still has that, where he can weave, slip, create the openings to unload a bomb on your chin and get you out of there.

“No agreements, no funny business, [this is] a dangerous, risky fight for Paul. I give him credit. Especially early.

“Tyson’s gonna come out there and, if you do have an agreement with him, ha, good luck. Because I know Tyson.

“When that bell rings, he might have a short memory about any agreement other than the agreement to put hands on your chin.”

When Paul vs Tyson was postponed from its initial July 20 date, the YouTuber-turned-boxer quickly scheduled an alternative fight.

Mike Perry was brought in as the opponent and provided a nice showcase for Paul.

He floored Perry in rounds one and two before ultimately stopping him in round six.
