Conor McGregor suggests comeback announcement could happen before UFC 300 as he shares sparring footage

Conor McGregor continues to build excitement for his comeback bout.

The former dual-weight champion hasn’t fought since breaking his leg at UFC 264 in July 2021, but an announcement about his return is believed to be imminent.

‘Notorious’ is an avid social media user and he’s been utilising his various platforms to suggest that a clash with Michael Chandler may be announced ahead of UFC 300 on Saturday.

UFC CEO Dana White initially got fans excited when he shared a video of McGregor, with the caption: ‘COMING SOON’.

The Irishman retweeted the post before highlighting a fan theory that suggests White may interrupt Thursday’s pre-fight press conference to confirm McGregor vs Chandler.

“I could see the UFC 300 press conference ending like this,” the social media user wrote alongside a video of White ending a previous press event by announcing a McGregor fight.

One of McGregor’s former opponents, Max Holloway, recently suggested that the UFC has something big planned for the press conference – and now fans are convinced it’s to do with ‘Mystic Mac’.

“There’s nothing much you can do,” Holloway said on his YouTube channel.

“All the hard work is done, we got a couple of hard workouts [left] but ain’t nothing you know, there’s nothing you can do in 2 weeks to get ready for next Saturday.”

“I heard that they’ve got something special planned for the press conference, so I’m looking forward to fight week.”

On Monday, McGregor added more fuel to the fire with an Instagram post.

The 35-year-old shared a series of clips of him sparring. McGregor seemed to be in terrific shape and was training with an intensity that suggested he’s got a fight coming up.

McGregor’s clash with Chandler has been pencilled in for 14 months, and fans are losing patience waiting for White to finally reveal exactly when it will happen.

Flyweight contender Cody Durden says he’ll be competing on the undercard of McGregor’s comeback at UFC 303 on June 29, and that date seems likely.

Surely, MMA fans are just days away from getting official confirmation.
