Spawn (2025) – First Trailer | Jamie Foxx, Michael B. Jordan | Concept

After years of speculation, Spawn is finally moving forward with Jamie Foxx officially attached to play Al Simmons in a gritty reimagining of Todd McFarlane’s cult comic book character. The project, long stuck in development hell, is being positioned as both a reboot and a fresh start for the franchise, with a darker, more horror-infused tone than the 1997 film.

Foxx, who has been rumored to be circling the role for nearly a decade, is said to be deeply invested in bringing Simmons’ tragic fall and rebirth as the hellspawned antihero to life. The film is expected to lean less on flashy superhero tropes and more on atmospheric horror, with inspiration drawn from Se7en, The Crow, and even Hereditary.

Joining Foxx will be Jeremy Renner, reportedly in talks to portray Twitch Williams, the morally conflicted detective who becomes entangled in Spawn’s crusade. Early concept art teases a near-demonic design for Spawn, with heavy use of practical effects mixed with cutting-edge VFX to achieve McFarlane’s surreal, grotesque vision.
